Stone Mountain Lodge

About this Escape

Situated high in the Groot Winterhoek Mountains, the lodge is your overnight stay when hiking the Two Gorges Trail. With a huge boulder forming the backdrop to the main living area, windows on all sides provide panoramic views of the Strydomskop peak as the Karoo fades into the distance. Although this is primarily a hiking destination, the lodge is accessible with a 4 x 4 that has high clearance and diff lock at an additional surcharge.

This remote destination gets its power from the sun, and water from a mountain spring. It is fully equipped for self catering so no need to load your backpack with unnecessary stoves, crockery and cutlery.

The beds are supplied with duvets and pillows so you only need to carry sheets and pillow slips (which we provide). Stone lodge sleeps seven in five singles and one double bed. The double bed is located on the lower level in its own private room with an adjacent bathroom. The other beds are situated on raised “annexes” off the main lodge living area. Both bathrooms have showers with views of the surrounding peaks and Karoo.

There is a minimum stay of two nights so we have cut a number of day trails from the lodge to keep you busy .
